Hans Wilhelm Spiesicke

January 2, 1946 — June 20, 2024

Hans Wilhelm Spiesicke passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 20th, 2024, surrounded by his adoring family. Born in Skien, Norway, on January 2nd, 1946, he moved to New York in 1954.  He began his career as an engineer assistant on Long Island before relocating to Wilmington, Vermont, in 1978, where he became the proud owner of The Viking Motel and Truffles Restaurant. For over 45 years, Hans was a beloved business owner in the Deerfield Valley of Southern Vermont, well known for his prime rib dinners, bands on the weekend in his much loved bar, and his generosity in providing rooms for those in need.

A spirited member of The Deerfield Valley Sportsmen’s Club, Hans served as an officer from 2018 to 2022. He had a passion for classic cars and enjoyed sharing this interest with family and friends and especially the Boulevard Bombers. Hans was also an active member of VAST (Vermont Association of Snow Travelers) for many years, welcoming fellow snowmobilers to his property. He was a strong supporter of the Wilmington Police Department, befriending the entire force over the years.

Hans leaves behind his loving wife of 39 years, Denise Spiesicke, his daughter Diana Langlois (Ambrose) and her husband Eric Langlois, his trusted sidekick Will Freckleton and many family members and friends.  Hans' greatest joy was being "Poppa" to his grandson, Colin Langlois (19).  The family will hold a private burial and wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the BAYADA home health nurses for their kindness and support.
