Harold C. "Harry" Durand 77, a resident to f Route 7A passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 24, 2016 in Bennington following a brief illness. The son of Raymond and Jeanette (Wheeler) Durand, he was born in Marlboro, MA on February 17, 1939. He grew up in Marlboro where he graduated from Marlboro High School.Shortly after High School Harry entered the United States Air Force where he began a 20 year military career retiring at the rank of Staff Sargent at Williams Air Force base in Arizona. Following his military career, he worked at the Equinox Resort for 19 years as a doorman where he became well known and liked by the staff and guests, he retired in January 2015. Throughout his life, Harry was an avid golfer and made many hole in one shots , he enjoyed traveling to the Casinos, crossword puzzles and will be remembered for maintaining an immaculate lawn at his home in Arlington. He leaves his wife Susan (Hard) Durand whom he married in 1973 in Maryland, sons Robert Ames and wife Linda of Montana and Steven Ames and companion Donna Gordon of Dorset, daughter Debra Ames of East Rupert, brother Raymond Durand of Florida, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers Donald, Roy and Francis , sister in law Rita Durand , sister Phyllis Letender and brother in law Paul Hard.Funeral services will be held at the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home at a later date and will be announce at that time. Burial will take place with Military Honors in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Arlington Rescue Squad in care of Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250. Funeral services will be held at the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home at a later date and will be announce at that time. Burial will take place with Military Honors in the Evergreen Cemetery.
