Harriet Norton Gaines, 89, formerly of Emmons Road in Hoosick Falls, NY passed away Friday April 22, 2016 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. Harriet was born in Bennington on October 18, 1926 the daughter of the late Edward and Helen (White) Emmons and attended school in East Hoosick, NY. Harriet was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution (D.A.R.), the Mayflower Society and very active in local farmers markets. She enjoyed knitting, bead crafting and loved gardening. In her earlier years she enjoyed traveling, and traveled across country with her family, loved her home on the farm and spending time with her family. She owned and operated Breezy Hill Farm, a third generation farm started by her grandmother Emma Norton from Norton Pottery who owned Norton Farm. Harriet is survived by her son Ben Gaines and his wife Calli of Hoosick Falls, sister Helen Hogel of Bennington, and grandchildren Carl, April, Cody, Justin and Tyler Gaines. She was preceded in death by her husband Osborne (Doc) Gaines who died December 11, 2010, son Christopher Gaines who died April 30, 2007 and daughter Barbara Benner who died March 15, 1981. Funeral services for Harriet will be held Monday May 23, 2015 at 11am at the First Baptist Church in Bennington, Interment will follow in the family lot in Village Cemetery in Bennington.
