Harry Younger Twiss, Jr.

Harry Younger Twiss, Jr., a resident of Allard Road, passed away Monday February 8, 2016 at his home. Harry was born in Morrisville,VT the oldest son of nine children, on January 24, 1936 the son of the late Harry and Hesther (Anderson) Twiss, Sr. He graduated from St. Michaels High School in Montpelier, VT. Harry served our country as a member of the United States Army, serving in Germany from 1953-1958. Harry worked for Deerfield Glassine in Monroe Bridge, Massachusetts for twenty-two years, owned and operated the Jacksonville General Store with his wife Elaine for seven years and was a dispatcher for the Vermont State Police in the Brattleboro and Shaftsbury Barracks for sixteen years. Harry was a charter member and for twenty years, a member of the Whitingham Ambulance Service. He loved football and was an avid New England Patriot fan, loved working around his home and cherished times spent with his family especially his grandchildren. Harry is survived by his children, Lynn Twiss and her husband Steve Martineau of Westminster West, VT, Peter Twiss of Willington, CT and Nancy Russell and her husband Michael of Jacksonville, VT, siblings Bob and Sandy Twiss of Bangor, ME, Sandra and Wayne Williams of Brooksville, FL, Steven and Carolyn Twiss of Pittsburgh, PA and Jerry and Judy Twiss of East Hampton, MA. He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine (Cross) Twiss whom he married in Maultraya, Kentucky on March 21, 1959. Mrs. Twiss passed away December 17, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Virginia Twiss who died at birth in 1961 and siblings Cheryl, Lois, Ted and Ella. Funeral services for Harry will be held Saturday February 13, 2016 at 11am at the Jacksonville Community Church. Interment will be held later in the spring. There are no visiting hours.
