Harvey V. Brophy, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, 83, a resident of East View Lane, East Dorset, VT, passed away peacefully at his home February 8th surrounded by the love of family after a long illness. Harvey was born in Bennington, Vermont on November 15, 1938, the son of the late Howard and Gladys (Fisher) Brophy. He attended school in East Dorset and graduated from Burr and Burton Seminary. In his youth, he worked on the family farm and general store. After graduating, he went on to work as an electrician. He married the love of his life, Dorothy (Dottie) Thompson on May 2, 1959. Together, they started Harvey Brophy Electric Service which thrived through their retirement and continues still today. He served in the VT National Guard and was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of the Free Masons. Harvey loved spending his time outdoors; he was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his entire life and enjoyed sharing endless stories about his adventures in nature. He loved to cut and split his firewood every year and to make maple syrup. As a devoted father and grandfather, he loved spending time at the family camp on Lake St. Catherine where he could be found driving the boat for endless skiers and tubers. He could always be found cheering his grandchildren on at their numerous sporting events and activities. Harvey is most famous for his sense of humor and ability to make people laugh. His pride and joy were his daughters, Debbie Brophy-Antonez (John) of East Dorset, VT, Shari Williams (Garrett) of Sunderland, VT, Julie Parker (Ben Jr.) of Manchester, VT, and Peggy Brockett (Dan) of Manchester, VT, along with his grandchildren Chris Antonez, Jessica Antonez, Brittany (Parker) Dombroski (Jacob), Caitlin Parker, Brianna (Brockett) Wilkins (Seth), Hailey Brockett, and his great grandsons, Wilder Dombroski and Jackson Wilkins. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Richardson. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Joanne Ellwood, and brother, Gary Brophy. A graveside burial service will be held in the spring at the family lot in South Village Cemetery in East Dorset, VT. If friends so desire, memorial gifts in Harvey’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or South Village Cemetery in East Dorset, Vermont, c/o Brewster & Shea Funeral Service P.O. Box 885 Manchester Center, Vermont 05255, to whom the family has entrusted arrangements.
