It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Harvey Halbur who died suddenly at his home in East Arlington, Vermont on February 18, 2025 at the age of 72.
Harvey was born in Los Angeles, California on June 27, 1952 and was the eldest son of Bernard (Ben) Halbur and Ann Lewis Halbur. His family later relocated to the San Francisco, California area and then moved to Arlington Vermont in 1960 where, except for a few years, he has lived since that time.
He was a graduate of the Class of 1970 at Arlington Memorial High School and the Class of 1974 at the University of Vermont where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Geology and enjoyed participating in many intramural sports.
He worked as a golf caddy, at the Wilson Clothing Company, as one of the early teachers at the Northshire Day School and in his later years as a homemaker.
It was at UVM that he began dating his wife Pamela Reynolds Halbur who survives him. He also leaves his beloved son and best friend Ben Patrick Halbur, his three brothers and their wives John and Kathy of
Cary North Carolina, Dale and Shannon of Clayton North Carolina and Paul (Fritter) and Wieska of Wilmington Vermont, his three brothers-in-law and their wives Leo and Pamela Reynolds of Jupiter, Florida, Robert and Linda Reynolds of Manchester, Vermont and Michael Reynolds of South Burlington, Vermont, as well as 14 nieces and nephews, nine great nieces and nephews and several cousins.
He pursued many physical activities throughout his life including his daily commitment as a long- distance runner where he could be seen putting in many miles on the Arlington roads and often received medals at running events. He played competitive soccer into his 40s as a player, coach and captain of the Arlington Summer Soccer Team and two years as a player/coach with the Manchester Summer Soccer Team. He also coached Arlington youth soccer. He played team and pickup basketball into his early 50’s with the Manchester Adult League and enjoyed playing many rounds of golf with Ben. His greatest joy was watching Ben play team sports during his school years and he never missed a game.
His life changed drastically when he suffered a major stroke in 2003. Even though his many physical activities slowed down, he never lost his keen intellect and enjoyed watching the History Channel, Discovery, Jeopardy and all sports. Along with his three brothers he was a lifelong fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team as their father was born and raised in Nebraska. He was also a fan of the Raiders, Lakers, Mets, Manchester United and UVM teams always wearing their team colors when their games were on.
Our deepest thanks go out to the many medical professionals who have taken the best care of him over the years and to the volunteer members of the Arlington Rescue Squad and Fire Department who responded so quickly and were with him when he passed away. A donation to one of these organizations or the Arlington Food Shelf would be a wonderful way to remember him.
Harvey's wishes were to not have a service or calling hours. Instead, we will gather his family and friends in mid- May for a joyful celebration of his life. Details will follow.
