Mrs. Helen Jaeger, aged 91, a former resident of Bennington, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2017, in Bennington. Prior to moving to moving to Bennington in 2004, she had resided in North Adams and Williamstown, MA, where she had relocated in 1995 from Middletown, NY, to live with her daughter (caregiver) and son in law. Mrs. Jaeger was the daughter of the late William and Edith (Soule) Stevenson. She was born in Norwalk, CT on August 8, 1925. She grew up in Norwalk, graduating from Norwalk High School, Class of 1942. She was married to William J. Jaeger, in Norwalk, on June 21, 1945. Mr. Jaeger died in 1986. Throughout her life, she had worked in retail sales, beginning at her husband's business, from 1958 to 1973, at W F Dayton Company in Middletown. She retired from Howland Steinbach's at the age of 70. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was a participant in Bennington Project Independence. Mrs. Jaeger stayed active throughout her retirement, enjoying being with friends and family and reading, but most of all tending to her gardens until the age of 80. She also enjoyed playing the organ and piano for family and friends. She leaves her daughter and son in law, Barbara and Brian Allard of North Adams, MA, son and daughter in law, John and Michelle Jaeger of Port St. Lucie, FL, grandson James of Framingham, MA, granddaughter Meghan of San Francisco, brother William and wife Joan Stevenson of Ocala, FL, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by sisters Ethel and Barbara. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on May 19, 2017 at 11:30am atfrom St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington. Private burial services will take place at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Middletown, NY. Memorial gifts may be made to either Bennington Project Independence or Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in care of Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
