Helmer E Pearson

Dr. Helmer E. Pearson, D.D.S., P.A., 87, a resident of Stratton, Vermont, passed away May 20, 2023 at Albany, NY Medical Center. Helmer was born in Jersey City, NJ, the son of the late Torsten and Esther (Lindow) Pearson. He graduated from Verona High School and Upsala College before attending the University of Maryland Dental School, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. Helmer then received his orthodontic training at Fairleigh Dickinson University, earning his M.S.D. in 1966, and went on to practice orthodontics in Caldwell and North Caldwell, NJ until his retirement. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, President of the New Jersey Association of Orthodontists, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthodontics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Helmer was a member of numerous professional and fraternal organizations including Essex County Dental Association, New Jersey Dental Association, Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Fraternity, West Essex Dental Association, Caldwell-West Caldwell Kiwanis Club, Fraternal Organization of VASA, and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of North Caldwell. He took great pride in his work and was published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Helmer was passionate about golf and was a member of several golf clubs over the years including Dorset Field Club, Essex Fells Country Club, Stratton Mountain Country Club, and Manchester Country Club. He was an avid skier for more than 50 years at Stratton Mountain and enjoyed skiing with his children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren. He and his wife, Thelma, took pleasure in retirement as Stratton Mountain Hosts for 20 years, welcoming skiers to the slopes. Helmer is survived by his wife Thelma (Olsson) Pearson of Stratton, children Gregory Pearson (Deanna) of Newtown, CT, Glenn Pearson (Cindie) of Barnegat, NJ, Gary Pearson (Jennifer) of Barnegat, NJ, and Gordon Pearson (Kenna) of Blairstown, NJ, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, in addition to his brother John Pearson of Massapequa, NY and sister Doris Clancy (Ed) of Sunset Beach, SC.
