Houghton N. Sawyer, Jr

Houghton N. Sawyer, Jr, a resident of Plumb Road, passed away June 19, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Pete was born in Whitingham, VT on June 10, 1931 the son of the late Houghton N. and Sarah Graham Sawyer, Sr. He attended Whitingham schools, graduating from Whitingham High School and then enlisting in the United States Army. Pete worked as a Master Electrician for many years in area businesses and schools. He later co-owned and operated Sawyer-Bentwood in Whitingham from where he retired. Pete lived a simple life. He enjoyed his camp (Pecos), his home and his family. He is survived by his wife Alzada Murdock Sawyer of Whitingham, step children Rebecca (Roberts) Goodson of South Carolina, Linda Roberts (Bob) of New York and Ricky Phelps of Massachusetts, his sister Margaret and 9 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by step children John Roberts, Jr. and Danny Phelps. Graveside funeral services for Pete will be held Friday July 7, 2023 at 11am in Sadawga Cemetery in Whitingham.
