Irene A. Wood

Irene A. Wood, 78 a resident of Bennington passed away peacefully on Friday March 18, 2016 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center. The daughter of Kenneth and Mary (Fifield) Griggs, she was born in Bethel on March 28, 1937. Irene was a graduate of Johnson State Teachers College and had taught in Bennington area schools , for many years she had worked at the J.C. Penney store in Bennington from where she retired. Irene enjoyed the outdoors , square dancing, camping and traveling. She leaves her daughters Denise Wood and companion Richard Russell of Bennington and Virginia Keating of North Bennington, son Alan Wood Sr. of South Glens Falls, NY, brother David Griggs and wife Nancy of Connecticut, sisters Barbara Loveland and husband Marvin of Bennington and Shirley Diaz and husband Larry of Florida, grandchildren Travis Russell, Brandy Keating, Cassandra Keating and Tabitha Keating, Alan Woods Jr., Melissa and Sarah Wood,Natalie and Tonijo, great grandchildren Khyler, Malajhya, Jasmine, Kahya and Sabrina. She was predeceased by a son Thomas Wood and two grandchildren Christopher and Robert Keating. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 22 at 11am at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home , burial will be private in the White Chapel Cemetery . Memorial gifts may be made to The National Alzheimer's Association in care of Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 22 at 11am at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home , burial will be private in the White Chapel Cemetery .
