James A. Ellis, 87, a resident of Bacon Hollow Road, passed away January 12, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. James was born in Peabody, Mass on September 25, 1933 the son of the late Delma and Eunice Pingrey Ellis and attended local schools. James worked in the coal mines in the White River Junction area and the creamery in South Royalton before becoming a butcher and meat cutter for many years. He was a member of the American Legion in Manchester and Woodstock, VT and the VFW in Manchester. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved animals. He enjoyed playing cards, working on crossword puzzles and listening to country music. He also enjoyed vacationing at Lake Champlain. James is survived by his children Kenneth Smith of Wells, VT, Cheryl Rogers of Windsor, VT and Debra Roper and her husband Steven of Sunderland, VT, sisters Virginia Piper of Florida, Marjorie of San Diego, CA and Dottie West of Peabody, MA, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. James will be buried beside his wife in the Randolph, Vermont Veterans Cemetery at a time to be announced. There are no visiting hours.
