James Francis Burke entered eternity on September 12 after a courageous 24 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born in Quincy, MA on September 26, 1953. Jim is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jill VanYperen Burke of Manchester, by sisters Helen Burke (Allan King), Mary Bliss, Joan Burke (Carolyn Rose), niece Jaclyn Bliss Caron (Ned Caron), and nephew Conor Bliss; as well as his many extended family members, including Richard (Doreen) VanYperen, Jack (Robyn) VanYperen, Cathy (Joseph) Kozlik, James (Sharon) VanYperen, Joan (Glenn) Olson, and many additional nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his dad, James W. Burke; his mom, Helen P. Burke; and his beloved brother-in-law, Jerry Bliss. Jim has left a lasting imprint on the lives of all who came to know him. He will be remembered for his positive outlook on life despite his debilitating illness; his interest in others' well-being; and his love for his family and friends, the Boston Red Sox, and the New England Patriots. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 15 at Zion Episcopal Church, Manchester, VT. The family wishes to thank those who have tended to and loved Jim, especially in the last years, including lifelong best friend Doug Cronin, caregiver Meme Morse, friends Barb and Ron Smith, Rev. John Mitchell, Kraig Hannum from the Stephen Ministry at Zion Episcopal Church, and caregivers from Manchester Health. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Zion Episcopal Church Stephen Ministry c/o Brewster-Shea Funeral Services P.O. Box 885 Manchester Center, VT 05255. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 15 at Zion Episcopal Church, Manchester, VT.
