Janet C. Fabricius, 87, a resident of Bennington, passed away March 27, 2024 at Brookdale at Fillmore Pond. Janet was born in New Bedford, MA on February 25, 1937, the daughter of the late R. Alton and Marion (Gould) Pitcher. She attended Berne Knox Central School in Berne, NY graduating in 1954, graduated from Union College and the Albany, NY School of Nursing in 1957. On Oct. 27th, 1957, she married Dr. Richard Fabricius and moved to Monroe, Louisiana. She worked as a nurse while Richard completed an orthopedic surgical residency at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. Upon completion, they then moved to Bennington in 1961.
Janet kept her RN license active throughout the years and provided nursing services in the local schools. She was very active in her community as a volunteer and a Grey Lady at SVMC, the Red Cross and RSVP and very active at the Second Congregational Church which included roles as secretary, Deacon, treasurer and organized the Snowball Bazaar. She was a member of Mt. Anthony Country Club, loved golf, tennis, playing bridge and with her husband was a wonderful swing dancer. She travelled all over the world, took great pride and enjoyment in gardening and provided flowers for the church altar. Janet is survived by her children Lt. Col. David Fabricius (Donna) of Pawlet, VT, Stephen Fabricius (Lisa) of South Portland, Maine and Carrie Fabricius (Derek Hurley) of Bennington, her brother Col. Rudolph Pitcher (Connie) of Huntsville, AL and grandchildren Dr. Jackie Fabricius and Connor Tilley. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Richard Fabricius. A celebration of life for Janet will be held Saturday April 6, 2024 at 1pm at the Second Congregational Church in Bennington. Interment will be held at a later date.
