Jeanne Mary Jewett 88, formerly of West Road Park and more recently a resident of Emma Street passed away peacefully on Sunday July 9, 2017 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness. The daughter of Edward and Mildred (Sweet) Houran, she was born in Bennington on December 29, 1928. She grew up in Bennington and was a graduate of Bennington High School, Class of 1946, following high school she attended St. Joseph's Business College . For many years Jeanne had operated The Notch Restaurant on East Main Street, she also worked as a bookkeeper at ChemFab in North Bennington, in later years she worked for the Vermont Unemployment Office ,specializing in assisting workers over the age of 55, she had helped many through the transition process. She also provided private duty care to Eugene Clark Esq. during his final years. Jeanne was a life member of both the Women of the Moose and Bennington Eagles Aerie 8641, Jeanne enjoyed knitting, crocheting and going to casinos. She leaves her son Jeffrey L, Jewett Sr. and daughter Pamela A. Buchko both of Bennington, brothers Gary and Robert Houran both of Bennington, grandchildren Tonya Judah, John "Jay" Harwood , Heath Harwood, Jeffrey Jewett Jr., Shirley Jewett and Matthew Buchko, great grandchildren Aniyah and Savanah, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Edward "Bunny" Houran on October 27, 2015. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 12 at 1pm at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery with Father Bob Wiseman officiating. The Women of the Moose will conduct memorial services following the committal prayers. Memorial gifts may be made to Second Chance Animal Center in care of Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 12 at 1pm at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery with Father Bob Wiseman officiating. The Women of the Moose will conduct memorial services following the committal prayers.
