Jeremy Murphy

Jeremy Murphy passed away on May 15, 2021 at his home in Peru, VT with his beloved longtime companion and wife Barbara by his side. He was born in 1939 in New York City the son of the late Goodrich and Eleanor Huyck Murphy. Jeremy grew up in New Canaan, CT and attended St. Luke's School. He was a graduate of Nichols College and from Williams College School of Banking. His banking career started at the Hanover Bank in New York City. He joined the Fairfield, CT County Trust becoming a Vice President. In 1968 he joined the New Canaan, CT Savings Bank as Executive Vice President becoming President in 1982. Jeremy enjoyed playing golf and was a former club champion at the Dorset Field Club and the Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia. Jeremy was also captain of the Nichols College Hockey team. Over the years, Jeremy very much enjoyed living and working with Barbara on their beautiful mountain property in Peru, VT. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his daughter Caroline Murphy Douthit of Arlington, VA, his son Matthew Murphy (Meg) of San Francisco and 5 grandchildren, Samuel and Grace Douthit and Elizabeth, John and Ryan Murphy.. He was preceded in death by his 3 brothers Peter, Christopher and Jonathan Murphy. A celebration of life will be held at a later date and will be announced by the family.
