Jerome Richard Whitman, 69, a resident of Cobleskill NY and formerly of Arlington, VT, passed away suddenly January 10, 2019 at his home. Jerry was born in Albany, NY on August 8, 1949 the son of the late Richard L and Helen (Viault) Whitman. He was a graduate of Arlington Memorial High School and received BA in Electrical Engineering from Wentworth Institute in Boston. Jerry enlisted in the Air Force and served for 17 years. Jerry worked as a self-employed computer tech for many years. A former member of the Free & Accepted Masons, Jerry spent his last years with friends from the Cobleskill area enjoying fishing, bowling, playing cards, swimming at the YMCA. He loved horses and dogs. He was famous for both wearing his cowboy hat and walking everywhere with his cane. Mechanically inclined he was known for his "Jerry Rigging" abilities. A born story teller, a proud Veteran, a very caring individual who took care of residents in need at his apartment complex. He will be missed by many. However, his favorite past time was reading science fiction always with a cup of coffee in hand. He is survived by his son Jerome Whitman(Tammy) of Florida, daughters Erica Clark of South Carolina and Kelly Wood (Edward) of Tennessee, a step son Bryan Gafford, and step daughter Tracy Sessions both of Arkansas, sisters Christie Thomas and Dee Dee Green (Dennis) and, brother Robert Whitman (Debbie) all of Arlington and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his step son Christopher Gafford. Graveside funeral services for Jerry will be announced later in the spring. There are no visiting hours.
