Joan Marie Cole

Joan Marie Cole, 73, a resident of Colbrook Drive, passed away Thursday March 10, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born in Palmer, MA, on July 23, 1942 the daughter of Robert and Julia (Wactha) Hayes. She attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic Elementary School in Palmer, graduating from Palmer High School. Joan was an executive secretary, working for Burton Snow Boards, private businesses, Flo-Matic, Mack Molding for over twenty-four years, Marcus Store and Pour and the secretary to the Commandant at the Vermont Veterans Home. Joan was a member of the Arlington American Legion Axillary, Arlington Fire department Auxiliary ,the Red Phone Operator for the Fire department, and the Bennington Elks Lodge. She was very active and involved with the Vermont Special Olympics, enjoyed camping, polka music, was an avid reader and Boston Red Sox fan. Joan cherished times spent with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Ronald Cole of Arlington whom she married April 21, 1962 in New Hampshire, daughters Carrie Pickering and her husband Patrick of West Arlington, Karen Sargood and her husband Alan and Tracie Cole both of Arlington, brother Robert Hayes and his wife Joan of Florida, twin sister Jean Barry and her husband Bill, sisters Margo Huber and her husband Bill,and Julie Hayes of Massachusetts, grandchildren Michael Pickering of Cornelius,NC, Danny Pickering and his wife Amy of Newport,VT, Jessica Gascoigne and her husband Pat of Haymarket,VA and Jason Sargood and his wife Chantelle of Jacksonville,NC, great grandchildren Hunter, Jax ,Corbin and Finn. She was preceded in death by brothers Patrick and Ronald Hayes. Funeral services for Joan will be held Tuesday March 15, 2015 at 1pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Arlington Chapel Historic Route 7A Arlington, VT. Interment will be private. A visiting hour will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 12-1pm. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Joan's memory may be made to the Manchester Special Olympics .
