Joan R. Kelly, 82, a resident of Jefferson Heights, passed away Tuesday March 3, 2015 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. Joan was born in Far Rockaway, New York on March 30, 1932 the daughter of Vernon W. and Anna C. (Heyn) DeMois. She attended and graduated from school in Far Rockaway in 1950. Joan and her husband Thomas moved to Vermont from Long Island in 1977. The family owned and operated Red Top Taxi Service from 1977 until June 2000. She and Donna enjoyed being vendors at various shows and flea markets for the past thirty three years. While meeting people there, she would learn of their personal crisis and pray for them, all the while still fighting her own many battles with cancer. She will always be remembered for her selflessness and kindness toward others, always putting their needs before her own. Joan enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises with her family. Joan is survived by her daughter Donna Kelly of Bennington, son John W. Webb and his wife Corrine of Angola, New York, brother Vernon R. DeMois of Cypress, Texas, granddaughters Darien and Danielle of Angola, New York , nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Patrick Kelly whom she married November 6, 1954. Mr. Kelly died November 20, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her sister Ann Neher. A Mass of Christian death and burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning March 11, 2015 at 11am at Sacred Heart, St. Francis deSales Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening March 10, 2015 from 6-8pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, Vermont. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Joan's memory may be made to a local Humane Society of your choice or the Vermont Veterans Home Activities Fund, c/o Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home P.O.
