Joel G. Burrington

Joel G. Burrington, 88, a resident of Route 346 in Pownal, Vermont, died suddenly on October 25, 2019. He was born in Bennington, Vermont on October 26, 1931, and was the son of the late Walter Joel and Bernice E. (Morgan) Burrington. He received his education in the Williamstown, Massachusetts Schools. In 1952, Joel joined the Army and served in the Korean War as a Section Leader with the CO D 224th Infantry Regiment. While in service, Joel received the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star; the National Defense Service Medal; U N Service Medal; Combat Infantry Badge; 2 Overseas Service Bars and the Good Conduct Medal. When he returned home, he joined his family in running a dairy farm in Pownal until his recent retirement. Joel was past Finance Officer of the Pownal Post 91 American Legion. In his teenage years, Joel loved to go dancing. Joel also loved spending time with his friends and family, loved animals, took great pride in his lawn and loved watching golf. Survivors include his two sons, Joel W. Burrington and his wife, Karen Jean Burrington. Jeff Burrington and his wife, Edie Warrender and their children, Ian Burrington, Evan Burrington and Kathryn Warrender. A daughter, Tammy Sohl and her husband, Joseph Sohl and their daughter, Sammie Sohl. Joel is also survived by two step-children, Jonathan White and Stepahine Jordan and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including his nephew, Bruce Burrington who has also helped run the family dairy farm. Joel was predeceased by his brother, Walter M. Burrington; his twin brother, Bruce E. Burrington, his granddaughter, Kate Erin Burrington, and his long time partner, Grace Martin. Funeral services and interment will take place on Thursday, October 31, 2019. Calling hours will be at 11:00 AM and services will start at noon at Shea Family Family Funeral Home, 213 West Main St Bennington, VT. Graveside service with military honors will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Second Chance Animal Hospital through the Shea Family Funeral Home, Bennington, VT 05201.
