John F. Thompson

John F. Thompson, 82, a resident of Route 313, passed away Thursday January 14, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. John was born in Sandgate, VT on July 31, 1938 the son of the late Dana Lee and Hildegard Lomberg Thompson. He attended Sandgate schools and upon moving to Manchester attended Manchester Schools and graduated from Burr & Burton Seminary. John earned his Master’s Electrician degree from Vermont Technical College where he was in the first class for electrical science. John worked for area electricians until he decided to own and operate his own business earning a great clientele. John loved hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, hiking and just about anything outdoors. He enjoyed traveling out west, Switzerland and the islands. Most of all he cherished times spent with his family. John was a United States Air Force Veteran, a member of the Free & Accepted Masons Adoniram Lodge in Manchester and the West Arlington Methodist Church Chapel on the Green. John is survived by his wife Carol Greene Thompson of West Arlington whom he married in Sparks, GA on December 30, 1962, daughters Dawn Fisher (Chris) of East Arlington and Traci Cleveland (Scott) of Pawlet, VT, his brother George Thompson (Zilpha) of West Charleston, VT, sisters Betty Townsend (Vic) of Northern, VT, Marilyn Scarlotta of Granville, NY and Alice Ashley (Richard) of Southern Arizona and grandchildren Laura, Jeremy, Justin and Jonathan. Funeral services for John will be held Wednesday January 20, 2021 at 11am at the Chapel on the Green. Interment will be held in West Arlington, Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday January 19, 2021 at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Arlington Chapel, Historic Route 7A from 11am-1pm. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and for anyone attending visiting hours or the funeral service, please wear a mask.
