John Ungar, 86, a resident of Deer Run Road in Arlington, passed away December 1, 2016 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. John was born in Budapest, Hungary on August 29, 1930 the son of Laslo and Mater Ungar. John received his education in England schools and took graduate level courses at Rutgers University in New Jersey. John worked as a Chemist in water purification for Ionac in New Jersey, Sybron in Italy, and Mitsubishi Chemicals/Dynex in Canada before retiring. John loved his work. He enjoyed singing, was in an instructional dance group as a teenager and enjoyed chess. John is survived by his wife Judith (Dodge) Ungar of Arlington, children James Ungar (Cheryl) of Stoughton, MA, Jeffrey Ungar (Anne) of Toronto, Canada and Jeanette Roman (Peter) of Kensington, MD and grandchildren Amanda, Mark, Jack, Matthew and Zachary. Funeral services for John will be held Monday December 5, 2016 at 2pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, VT. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington, VT. There are no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts in John's memory may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter, c/o Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home P.O. Box 957 Bennington, VT 05201.
