Kenneth E. Clayton , Sr., 92 a resident of Buck Hill Road passed away peacefully in Vergennes on Thursday March 15, 2018. Ken was born in Bennington on July 12, 1925, he was the son of Edwin L. and Irene M. (Hazelton) Clayton. He grew up in East Dorset where he attended local schools. He entered the U.S. Navy following school and served in the North Atlantic aboard the USS Daniel A. Joy, Destroyer Escort 585. The Fleet took an extended voyage sailing by the Rock of Gilbraltar into the Mediteranean Sea to North Africa and back to the United States. The voyage continued to the Panama Canal in to the pacific and through the Phillipines before returning to the States. After many years, Ken retired from Mack Molding as a Molder. Ken was a member of the American Legion Post 69 of Arlington, D.A.V. And charter member of the Harned Fowler Post 6471 of the V.F.W. In Manchester. He worshiped at the Federated Church of East Arlington , when his children were young he was an active Boy Scout leader for many years and assisted in Little League Baseball. He was predeceased by his wife Jeannette "Pat" Clayton on May 11, 2013 a son Keith Clayton. He was also predeceased by his brothers Neal, Arnold and Richard Clayton, and by his sister Ethel Green and also predeceased by a grandchild John Michael Stroffoleno. He leaves his sons Kenneth Clayton Jr and wife Donna of Vergennes, VT, and Daniel Clayton of Hoosick Falls, NY, and his daughter Kathryn Brockelman and husband Bruce of Shirley, MA. He also leaves a daughter-in-law Lynn Clayton of Colchester, VT Grandchildren John and Jason Stroffoleno, Wanda and Darielle Brockelman, Heather and Tammy Clayton, David, Myra and Seth Clayton, Laurel Jewell, Billie Jo Forgues and Jessica Gaboriault. Great Grandchildren Brandon, Sidney and Jordan Jewell, Jonathan, Maci and Morgan Forgues, Dylan, Jacob and Connor Gaboriault, Jeremy, Sierra and Savannah Clayton, Madison Baldwin, Matthew Stroffoleno, Keelyn and Eli Clayton,.brothers Alford and Gerald Clayton, and a sister Janice Bruce. Funeral services will be held on Friday March 23 at 10am at The Federated Church of East Arlington , burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-7pm. Memorial gifts may be made to the Manchester V.F.W. Post 6471 or Arlington American Legion Post 69 in care of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250. Funeral services will be held on Friday March 23 at 10am at The Federated Church of East Arlington , burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-7pm.
