Kenneth L. Sherman, Sr., 78, a resident of North Road, passed away February 7, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. Ken was born in Troy, NY on October 9, 1941 the son of the late William and Ina Papers Sherman and attended local schools. Ken worked at the Morse Block in Bennington for many years as a truck driver, Dick Hayes Construction and the latest for Steve Adams Excavation until his retirement. Ken enjoyed building bird houses as gifts and also selling them to local stores. He had a deep native American history from his mother who was a Cherokee Indian. Ken was a United States Army veteran of the Viet-Nam era. Ken is survived by his children Kenneth L. Sherman, Jr. and his wife Elaine of Bennington, Sherry L. Hayes and her husband Edward of Arlington, Glenn Sherman and his wife Laurie of Arlington and Michael Sherman and his wife Heidi also of Arlington, his sister Beverly Arnold, half-brothers William, John and Chris Sherman, half adopted sister Sarina, 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Judy Sherman whom he married in Arlington March 11, 1961, sisters Elsie, Marlene, Charlotte, Gertrude, Shirley, Gladys and Patty and his brothers Robert, Raymond and Tommy. A celebration of life for Ken will be held Friday February 14, 2020 at 2pm at the Arlington American Legion. There are no visiting hours. Interment will be in the spring in Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland. If anyone would like to assist the family by bringing a dish to share, please bring to the American Legion after 12:30.
