On Thursday evening, May 10, 2018, Leon Francis John Peters, 70, passed away at his home on Brick House Road, Whitingham, Vermont, where he was surrounded by his loving family. Lee, as he liked to be called, grew up in Heath, MA, the twelfth child of Philipine Lively Peters and Leon N. Peters. Lee received his early education in Heath, Charlemont and Shelburne Falls, MA. He was graduated from Greenfield High School/Vocational Tech School. Lee went on to earn an Associate Degree in Art from Greenfield Community College. He was then employed by North Adams State College, now Mass College of Liberal Arts, where he worked for forty plus years. Lee began as a media specialist and retired as the Graphic Designer for Publications and Publicity at MCLA. In addition, he generously shared his many extraordinary artistic talents with local community organizations, schools, his church, Charlemont Federated Church where he was member and Deacon for many years. Lee was a good friend, neighbor, and colleague to all. Lee was associated with a number of organizations including the Whitingham Historical Society as the vice chair; Whitingham Maple Fest Committee; Whitingham Old Home Week Planning Committee; the Windham County Democratic Committee; and he was a justice-of-the-peace and a member of the Whitingham Board of Civil Authority; as well as member of several professional organizations. Most of all, Lee deeply loved and was loved by his wife, Vanda N. Warner, of Whitingham whom he married on February 14, 1980 at their home, which he designed and built. He is survived by his wife, Van; their loving daughters, Olga Elizabeth Peters of Dummerston, VT; V.Tacy Lincoln and her husband Howard Lincoln of Essex Junction, VT; and Dana C. Homer of Whitingham, VT; and his former son-in-law, Arnold P. Coombs of Keene, NH. The times he spent with his wonderful grandchildren, Maxmilian C. Coombs of Keene, NH; Addison W. Coombs of Brattleboro, VT, Carter G. Lincoln and Lucy H. Lincoln of Burlington, VT were his most precious moments. In addition Lee is survived by his brothers, Cleon Peters and his wife Teresa of Heath, MA; John and his wife Valeda; his sisters, Beatrice and her husband Bob Drew; Teresa and her husband Bob Hicks all of Shelburne, MA; Paulina and her husband Loren of Winchedon, MA; Evelyn Lemay of Orange, MA; Jeanette Emond of Worchester, MA and Sylvia Williams of Pinetop, NC. Lee was predeceased by his brother Nelson and his sisters, Marie Herman and Lucille Annear. Celebration of the life of this special man will be held Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 2 PM at the Charlemont Federated Church in Charlemont, MA. Interment will be private and there will be no visiting hours.
