Lewis John “Dude” Ennis, Sr.

Lewis John “Dude” Ennis, Sr., a resident of Sunderland Hill Road, passed away June 26, 2024 at the home of his granddaughter Crystal Gardner in Pownal, VT. Dude was born in Sunderland on December 6, 1934 the son of the late Donald L. and Dorothy (Kesick) Ennis and attended local schools. Dude worked as a truck driver all of his working career for companies such as Dailey’s, Queen City, Holmes Transportation, Merrill Transport, Johnson Controls and his own business Ennis Trucking. Dude loved deer hunting boating, water skiing, going to his camp, 4-wheeling and snowmobiling in his earlier years. Dude enjoyed his home and spending time with family. Dude is survived by his children Lewis John Ennis, Jr. (Bonnie) of Poultney, Audrey Robertson (Dale) of White Creek, NY and Rhonda Davis and her significant other Chet McLellan of East Dorset, VT, his brother Tony Ennis of Sunderland, his sisters Jeannette Cypher of North Bennington, VT and Donna Hewes of Jacksonville, FL, 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in Death by his wife Pauline Ennis whom he married in 1954 in Idaho, son Richard Ennis, daughter Tina Fraise, siblings Anna Moss, Bridget Hall, Dorothy Guber, Edward Ennis and Clifford (Skip) Ennis and 3 grandchildren. A celebration of life for Dude will be held Monday July 1, 2024 at 1pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Arlington Chapel, Historic Route 7A Arlington, VT. Interment will follow in Ira Allen Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held from 11-1pm, two hors prior to the service at Hanso-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Historic Route 7A Arlington, VT.
