Lisa A. Bump, 65, a lifelong resident of Pownal, Vermont passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Lisa fought a courageous battle against Pancreatic Cancer for over a year and lost her battle on June 9, 2024.
Lisa was born in North Adams, Massachusetts on October 1, 1958, the youngest of 6 children to the late Lydia (Wilcox) and Floyd “Horkey” Woodcock. She was raised in Pownal, graduating from Mount Anthony Union High School in 1977. She met her future soul mate, Joe Bump there, but they did not finally marry until May 9, 1987. They have 6 children between them and Lisa loved every one of them throughout her life, even when that love was not returned.
Lisa’s lifelong passion was dirt racing. Even when traveling and living around the world while Joe served in the army, she found a way to visit dirt tracks. She was particularly in love with Lebanon Valley Speedway, where her family raced for several decades. Her passion was to see her sons on the track, earning her ASE Certification in Auto Mechanics so that she could help the team. She became a proud member of the “Turn 2 crew” at the valley and is well known by the race teams and the officials. She carried that passion to Albany/Saratoga raceway and beyond as the race team went from father to son to grandson. Her lifelong racing family is huge and includes Denny and Donna Young who she proudly supported through the years.
Lisa was a 40 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was past President of Unit 90 in Pownal, Historian and Chaplin of Unit 13 in Bennington. Her sons are members of the SAL and her Many granddaughters and great granddaughters are members of the Auxiliary. She recently became a member of American Legion Riders Chapter 13 in Bennington and was extremely proud to be a member of the Chapter Support Team. Lisa was an avid member of the American Legion and did everything she could to support the organization.
Lisa was co-owner of the Mount Anthony Karate Center, which she operated beside her husband for 33 years. The list of students and friends in that world is huge. Though the karate center was not her passion, she was passionate about its operation.
