Lucille Alma (Weichert) Croscup

Lucille Alma (Weichert) Croscup of South Stream Road passed away peacefully, Wednesday morning, September 25, 2024, at Brookdale Fillmore Pond in Bennington.

Lucille was born in the borough of Manhattan, New York, New York, on March 18, 1941 to Robert and Eleanor (Bergeron) Weichert. The family moved to Bennington when she was a small child and Lucille received her education in the area, graduating from Ben-Hi!  in 1959 as a very active member of her class. She then attended Alfred University in Alfred NY where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts.  In 1964/65 she attended New York University, achieving her Master’s degree. While attending high school and college she worked as a lifeguard and swimming instructor and later taught vocal music, elementary through high school in Bennington and North Adams. Lucille retired from teaching in 2003 after 39 years in education and 35 years in the Bennington area schools. She continued to substitute for fellow music teachers until 2007 thereby imparting her love of music and art to countless children over the years.

Lucille attended many national music conferences around the country and also refined her skills in music and education with additional graduate courses. Among her special projects during her teaching career, Lucille served as director of Bennington School District Select Chorus, Founder/Director of SVSU Festival Chorus (est.1987), Guest conductor at Rensselaer All-County Elementary Festival Chorus in 1983. In 2002 she instituted the Peace Garden at Molly Stark School in Bennington in honor of 9-11.

Lucille was actively involved in St Peter’s Episcopal Church Choir and many membership organizations including the Bennington County Choral Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, Bennington County and Vermont Retired Teachers Association. Additionally, many national organizations, the National Orff Schulwerk Association, HSUS, the ASPCA, National Geographic Society and many others.

Lucille was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Everett (Bud) Croscup, whom she married on August 29,1966 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. They participated in many adventures including traveling, ski patrol and owning a craft shop together.

Lucille especially enjoyed time with friends, concerts and theater, swimming, gardening and photography. A Celebration of the Life of Lucille W. Croscup will be held Thursday,

October 17, 2024 at 11 am at St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bennington with Fr. Jeremy Means-Koss. Interment will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington VT. Friends are encouraged to visit for a time of sharing and caring on Wednesday afternoon October 16, 2024 from 4 to 6 pm at Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral home at 213 West Main St., Bennington.
