Maria J. Cavalieri

December 28, 1933 — July 15, 2022

Maria J. Cavalieri entered into eternal rest on July 15, 2022 in Perrysburg, Ohio. She was born in Manhattan, New York on December 28, 1933 to Michael and Catherine (Gerbino) Vaccaro. She graduated from Central Commercial High School in Manhattan, NY in 1951 with training in Business Machines. She worked as a bank teller and bookkeeper for The Bowery Savings Bank & Franklin National Bank, where she handled the most complex assignments. Maria married Joseph R. Carella in 1954 and he preceded her in death in 1965. In 1971, she married Jack P. Cavalieri and he preceded her in death in 1992. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and deeply loved her family. Her special gift was hospitality. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary. She also was a gourmet cook; something she thoroughly enjoyed. During family gatherings, she could be found in one of two places: Either in the kitchen, cooking for the family (her coffee cake was legendary), or playing games with her grandchildren who will forever treasure these experiences. She retired with Jack to East Arlington, VT and was in the Women’s Sodality and directed the coffee hour at St. Margaret Mary’s Parish for many years. Later on, she moved to St. Clare Commons in Perrysburg to be closer to her family. Maria is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Marty) Reese of Brighton, MI; sons, Stephen (Jennifer) Cavalieri of Omaha, NE, Mark Cavalieri of Enfield, CT and Peter (Tina) Carella of Perrysburg, OH; brother, Victor Vaccaro of Savannah, GA; sister-in-law, Mary Cavalieri of Georgetown, SC; grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan) Groat, Daniel (Megan) Reese, Rachael (Ben) Ripley, Angela (Cliff) Morales, Anthony (Kim) Cavalieri, Raeanne Carella, and Jenna Carella, along with many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 9:30-11:00 A.M. at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 A.M. For those of you who are unable to attend, the funeral mass may be viewed live stream at www.stjohn23.org. Burial will follow in St. Columban’s Cemetery in Arlington, VT on August 6, 2022 at 11am. Memorial donations may be made in Maria’s name to The University of Michigan, Kellogg Eye Center.
