Mrs. Marie Wadsworth Hogan, 96 of Bennington, VT, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2018 at The Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, after a brief illness. The daughter of Walter L. Wadsworth and Margaret D. (Young) she was born on May 5, 1921. Mrs. Hogan graduated from Bennington High School with the Class of 1939. During World War II, Marie worked as a switchboard operator for the Bell Telephone Company. She married the late Michael J Hogan Jr. on December 1, 1945 at the Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. Following their marriage they moved to Boston, MA where Mike attended Boston University and Marie continued her work as a switch board operator. Upon returning to Bennington, she worked at Bell and at The House of Blue Hill, where she used her flair for decorating. Marie devoted her attention to raising her children Dennis W and Neal C Hogan. She was blessed with five grandchildren Dennis B, Heather, Ashley, Charlotte and Anna Hogan; great-granddaughter Riley Peterson, born December 29, 2016, with whom she learned to Facetime. She shared her love for books with her grandchildren. In earlier years, Marie enjoyed skiing with her family, staying healthy and in good physical condition. She took pride in being able to do cartwheels well into her 50s. Marie enjoyed spending time at her house on Cape Cod, and enjoyed gardening and reading. She kept her mind sharp by completing crossword puzzles every day. She was a devout Red Sox fan. Right up to the end, Marie enlightened her family and friends with tales she experienced throughout her life. She leaves her sons, Neal C Hogan and wife Jennie of Bennington, VT and Dennis W Hogan and wife Janice of Cheshire, CT; four grandchildren: Charlotte Hogan and fiance Tim McCall of Greenfield, MA, Dennis B Hogan and Amy Orlando of Simsbury, CT, Ashley and Christopher Peterson of Woburn, MA and Anna Hogan of Bennington, VT; a great-granddaughter Riley Peterson, and nieces and nephews. All of her grandchildren affectionately referred to Marie as "Ree". In addition to her husband, Marie was predeceased by her brother James Robert Wadsworth and granddaughter Heather Lee Hogan. Funeral services will be held from the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Saturday May 5, 2018 at 11:45 a.m. with a prayer followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial, 12:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. Burial will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to The School of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales, in care of Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201. Funeral services will be held from the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Saturday May 5, 2018 at 11:45 a.m. with a prayer followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial, 12:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. Burial will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
