Marilyn Frances Dennett Johnson died peacefully at her current residence at Brookdale, Fillmore Pond in Bennington, VT on May 11, 2022. She was 93 years old. Marilyn was born on March 11, 1929 in Milford, MA to Viola E. (Gould) and Winburn A. Dennett. She grew up in the small town of Hopedale, MA, in the company of her extended family. Her father was principal of the high school and their residence was on Dennett St., named in honor of her grandfather, who was a founding member of her hometown. Sunny summers were spent at the Dennett family cottage at Wells Beach, Maine where a lifetime of memories and a love for the Maine coast were formed. After earning a B.S. degree from the University of Maine in 1951, she spent most of her single years as an elementary school teacher, which was a job she loved. In 1957, Marilyn married Harold A. Johnson with whom she moved to Danvers, MA and had three children: Elizabeth(Libby),Carol and Robert. During their many happy years in Danvers, she was active in the lives of her husband, kids, and friends, and was a member of the First Congregational Church. When her children were older, she worked at the Hunt Memorial Hospital, mainly as a medical transcriber. After retirement, Marilyn and Harry enjoyed 20 years together of foreign and domestic travel, dining at their favorite restaurants, visiting family and friends, and planning their next trip! In 2000, they relocated to Auburn, MA, where they lived until Harry’s death in 2008. They were married for almost 51 years. After her husband died, Marilyn lived in two retirement communities, one in the Berkshires of MA and the other in southern VT. Her final years were quiet ones, but she never lost her sense of humor, her taste for lobster rolls, her fondness for cats or a group sing-along, or her love and appreciation of family. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Winburn A. Dennett, Jr. She is survived by her three children, four grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, a cousin and a nephew. She also leaves behind the many compassionate care-givers, who gave so much of themselves to make every day better. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to Second Chance Animal Center in Arlington, VT or Bayada Hospice of Rutland, VT c/o Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home PO Box 957 Bennington, VT 05201
