Marjorie S. Swift, 95, formerly of Old Mill Road in East Arlington, passed away June 21, 2017 at the Centers For Living and Rehabilitation. Marjorie was born in Springfield, VT on September 21, 1921 the daughter of the late John R. Stone and Merle A. Johnson, attended local schools and earned her Associate Degree from Castleton Normal School. Marjorie enjoyed children, taught in Norwich Schools, loved reading and playing scrabble. She was an excellent baker ( breads, pies and cakes) and made the communion bread for the Federated Church of East Arlington. Marjorie was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan. She is survived by her son Gary Merrill and his wife Lynda of Pittsfield, VT, daughter Mary Louise Rogers and her husband Richard of Pownal, sister Emily S. Kennedy of Bennington, grandchild Julie Snow who was always by her side, six more grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her first husband Gordon E. Merrill who died in 1959, her second husband Merrill Swift who died in 1978, brother John R. Stone, Jr who died in 2012and sister Priscilla Spaulding in 1948. Funeral services for Marjorie will be held Wednesday June 28, 2017 at 3pm at the Federated Church of East Arlington. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours.
