Mark Atherton

Mark Atherton, 59, a resident of Sandy Acres, passed away unexpectedly March 26, 2022 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Mark was born in Westwood, NJ on November 4, 1962 the son of Bert and Florence (Catalano) Atherton. He attended schools in New Jersey and Williamstown, Massachusetts, graduating from Mt. Greylock High School. Mark provided autobody work and was an insurance adjuster for many years. Most recently he was an EMT and a member of the Pownal Rescue Squad for 10 years. He was also a member of the Pownal Volunteer Fire Department. Mark enjoyed anything outdoors. He enjoyed listening to classic rock music, travelling to the ocean and spending time with his family. Mark is survived by his son Tyler Atherton and is fiancé Katie Fisk of Pownal, his mother Florence Atherton of Florida, brother Bert Atherton, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Pownal, his significant other Rebecca Levine of Pownal and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Bert Atherton, Sr who passed away August 8, 2014. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday April 2, 2022 from 11am-1pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, VT. A reception and celebration of life will follow at the American Legion in Pownal.
