Mary Ann Mento, 82, of Arlington passed away on June 8, 2016 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. Born 8/12/1933 in Orange, NJ; daughter of Alfred J. and Mary Ann (Winch) Quimby. Predeceased by her husband, Anthony R. Mento, She is survived by a brother Calvin Quimby ,two children, son Ronald(Therese) Mento of Lockport, NY, and daughter Dale (Paul) Sheehy of Carver, MA, four grandchildren; Patrick, Matthew, Nicholas and Katie, 6 nieces, and 1 nephew.Educated in NJ and Mass. Received B.Sc. In Chemistry from Tufts College where a member of Chi Omega sorority, Philips Brooks Club, Tufts Chemical Society, Intercollegiate Chemistry Society, Jackson swim team, and Marlins synchronized swimming club. Attended Columbia University and was admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Received an M.Ed. degree from Rutgers Univ. and a Master of Natural Sci. degree from Univ. of Okla.Employed by Esso Research & Engineering Co., Linden, NJ, as research chemist; later taught chemistry, earth science, algebra, and physical science at Arlington Memorial High School, Arlington, VT; employed as a chemist and information specialist by University Engineers, Norman, OK, and as a patent agent by Sprague Electric Co., North Adams, MA.Was a member of the American Chemical Society, the Society of Technical Writers and Editors, Northern NJ Alumnae of Chi Omega Night Owls, Dolphin synchronized swim team, NJ AAU synchronized swimming advisory board, Arlington Chorale, board of directors of the Arlington Food Shelf, trustee of Martha Canfield Memorial Library, and family selection board of Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity.Publications: two papers concerning publishing technical bulletins, one paper on waste disposal for rural high school chemistry laboratories, one concerning fire-safety of chemical cargoes, and one on hydrogen reduction of metals, plus one US patent.Communicant of St.James Episcopal Church, Arlington, VT, where she served on the vestry, as church treasurer, and held various office in their women's group, was a lay reader, Eucharistic visitor, Eucharistic minister, and choir member.Funeral Services will be held Saturday June 25th at 10:00 at St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington, VT. There will be no calling hours. Burial will follow in the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the organ fund at St. James Church or the Women of St. James, the Martha Canfield Library, or the Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity c/o Hanson Walbridge & Shea Arlington Chapel P.O. Box 528 Arlington, VT 05250. Funeral Services will be held Saturday June 25th at 10:00 at St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington, VT. There will be no calling hours.
