Mary L. Garren 89, a former longtime resident of Grove Street passed away peacefully at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday June 27, 2021. The daughter of the late Arthur and Lillian (Stratton) Watson she was born in Bennington on February 23, 1932. A lifelong resident she grew up here and attended local schools. She had married Donald Garren in October of 1956 , he died in 1991. Mary had worked at Tansitor Electronics (now Vishay) for 38 years until retiring in 1997. She enjoyed sports and in earlier years was active in Post 13 baseball and was recognized for the hours she spent volunteering finding lodging for players when American Legion tournaments would come to Bennington. There was never a doubt when on a weekend that if you needed her, she would be at a ball game in town or miles away. Mary also followed all the local High School sports as well as the Boston Red Sox and her beloved New England Patriots. She enjoyed spending time with family, country music, playing cards , bingo and writing the occasional poem. She is survived by her sister Betty L. Lackey of Bennington, special friends, Mike, Tyson and Shawn Kinney , as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved son Thomas D. Garren on May 18, 1997 , her siblings Ora M. Joseph, Ruth E. Sweet, Edward A. Watson, Thomas F. Watson and Ralph E. Watson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 30 at 1pm at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home with Reverend Dustin Bell officiating. Burial will follow in the White Chapel Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 11-1pm at the funeral home.
