Mary Genella

Mary Frances Genella, 80, a resident of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 in Dover, Vermont surrounded by her family. She was a beloved wife, devoted mother and adored grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Ralph S. Genella. They raised their family in North Brunswick, NJ. During their retirement years, when they weren't traveling, they split their time between Pittsburgh, PA, Wilmington, VT, and Denver, CO. Mary worked at various jobs over the years; they all had one thing in common, caring for others. From teaching adults to read, to working as a nurse's aide in a nursing home, to her all time love as a daycare provider. Her hobbies included puzzle making with her grandchildren, making yo-yo quilts and her skills in the kitchen were legendary and won the hearts of many. She is survived by her children: Janet Boyd & husband, Dannie of Wilmington, VT; Ralph Genella & wife, Roberta of Granby, MA; Thomas Genella & wife, Dina of Centennial, CO; Lynne MacConnell & husband Daniel, of Pittsburgh, PA; Mary Genella & Therese Lounsbury of Wilmington, VT; and Michael Genella & wife, Deborah of Littleton, CO. Mary was affectionately called "Nanny" by 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and was an honorary grandmother to the countless children she cared for as a daycare provider for the past twenty years. Funeral services are being handled by Covey Allen & Shea Funeral Home in Wilmington, VT. She was adored and will be deeply missed. We wish her a safe journey and know her beloved husband Ralph is waiting with open arms to welcome her to their home in Heaven where they shall forever be together. Please join us in celebrating her life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 27th at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wilmington, VT. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at a later date in Pittsburgh, PA.
