Mary "Peggy" Niles

Mary "Peggy" Niles, 94, a resident of Twitchell Hill Road, passed away January 31, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Born in North Pownal, Vermont on August 16, 1926 the daughter of the late Harry V. and Cora Mae Baker Wilcox. Mary grew up on the family farm along with 5 brothers and 6 sisters, two other brothers died as infants. Mary received her early education at the North Pownal Elementary School and then attended Bennington High School. She married Raymond G. Niles on June 29, 1947 in the North Pownal Congregational Church and they enjoyed a 60-year marriage prior to his death in 2007. Mary was an avid baseball, golf and NASCAR fan, already looking forward to this years spring training games and the Daytona 500. Some of the greatest moments in her life though were times spent with her two grandchildren Whitney and Cody Pettibone. In addition to her grandchildren, Mary is survived by daughters Diane Niles of Shaftsbury with whom she resided and Terri (Sam) Pettibone also of Shaftsbury and daughter-in-law Debora Niles, many nieces and nephews and her cat Sofie. She was preceded in death by her son Gary Niles who passed away in June 2015. At Mary's request there will be no calling hours. Burial will take place in the spring in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal.
