Matthew David Monroe, 48, a resident of Rupert, VT, passed away Tuesday June 27, 2017. Matt was born in Bennington, VT on August 27, 1968, the son of the late Francis "Jitters" Monroe and Elizabeth "Libby" Nichols. He received his early education in Dorset schools and was a graduate of Burr & Burton Academy. Matt worked for Tim Baker & Son when he was a young boy and into his adulthood. When the Baker business was sold to Casella, Matt continued to work for Casella until his untimely passing. Matt was a hard worker and also started his own real estate clean out business. Matt was a former member of the Dorset Fire Department, but his true passion was working at his job. He cherished being with his friends, enjoyed helping people and had a heart of gold. Matt is survived by his brother Michael Monroe of New Hampshire, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew, cousins and many friends. A celebration of the life of Matthew David Monroe will be held Sunday, July 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert in Dorset. There will be a reception at the Church after the funeral services to honor and reflect on Matt's life. Interment will be private. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Matt's memory may be made to the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert (Rev. Gray's Discretionary Fund), c/o Brewster-Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 885, Manchester Center, VT 05255. A celebration of the life of Matthew David Monroe will be held Sunday, July 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert in Dorset. There will be a reception at the Church after the funeral services to honor and reflect on Matt's life. Interment will be private.
