Michael P. Merritt

Michael P. Merritt, 72, a resident of Hamilton Hollow Road in Sandgate, Vermont, passed away June 28, 2015 at Sweetbrook Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Williamstown, MA. Michael was born in Hartford, CT on June 10, 1943 the son of Pete and Mary (Skeats) Merritt. Michael was educated at the Kingswood School in West Hartford, CT and graduated from Dartmouth University. Michael was a French Teacher at Deerfield Academy and other schools for many years. He then worked as a computer programmer in Connecticut and upon moving to Vermont was a computer programmer at the Stratton Ski Resort. In his earlier years, along with his wife Claire he enjoyed mountain climbing, especially the White Mountains in New Hampshire and loved dogs. For many years he sang with the Battenkill Choral in Cambridge, NY and loved to write. Michael loved living in Vermont and his home. Michael is survived by his wife Claire Merritt whom he married in 1978, God children Lauren Merritt Valentin of Florida and Robin Merritt of California, brother Tucker Merritt and his wife Donna of Connecticut, sister Susan Merritt Robertson of California and nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Polly Merritt O'Leary. Funeral services for Michael will be held Tuesday July 7, 2015 at 2pm at the First Congregational Church in Manchester with a reception to follow at the church. There are no visiting hours.
