Nancy Riley Childs

Nancy Riley Childs, 74 a resident of West Brattleboro passed away at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend on Thursday February 18, 2021 following a brief illness. The daughter of Captain Herbert C. and Isabel (Riley) Childs. She was born in New Haven, Connecticut on November 22, 1946 . Nancy received her early education at Connecticut public schools and graduated from Roger Ludlow high school. She continued her studies graduating with a B.A. from Lake Erie College in Ohio. In earlier years she had been employed at The Polaroid Company in Boston. Nancy was an avid reader and a skilled wordsmith. She loved being with her family and enjoyed visiting Vermont where several family members reside. She was the “favorite aunt” always giving just the right gift and praise to her siblings, nieces and nephews. Nancy leaves her brother Andrew R. Childs and his wife Mindy of West Dover VT, a sister Sarah C. Gagnon and her husband John of Brattleboro VT, sister Rebecca C. Miller of Montpelier VT, sister Karen C. LaVelle and her husband Michael of Fairfield CT. She also leaves nieces and nephews John Andrew Gagnon, Pamela Childs Lavelle, Francis Herbert Lavelle, Daniel Herbert Childs, Rachel Miller Reynolds and her husband Thomas Reynolds, Riley Oliver Childs and a brand new grandniece Paige Miller Reynolds. Many family members remember visiting Nancy while she lived in Boston. She always found great restaurants and was a wonderful host and had a keen eye for clothing and shoe ware. She loved ballet and held a love for culture which she shared by offering tickets to live performances. Nancy was a caregiver for her mother, Isabel and drove her to appointments and operations or medical procedures as she did for her friends Dotty and Margo. Nancy is predeceased by her parents and a brother Herbert C. Childs Jr. Services for Nancy will be held this coming summer, she will be laid to rest in the family lot in the Intervale Cemetery in Wilmington. Memorial gifts may be made to the S.D.
