Nancy Scott Ferraro

d. August 21, 2016

Nancy Scott Ferraro, in the loving company of her children, peacefully passed away in her home in Arlington VT Sunday, August 21, 2016.Born in Waterbury, CT on June 11, 1934, she was the daughter of Stewart and Elizabeth (Loomis) Scott, Nancy was raised in West Addison, VT on an apple orchard overlooking Lake Champlain. This lifestyle gave her an appreciation for nature, a lifelong love for animals and empathy for all people. She attended HS at St. Margaret's Academy and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1955 with a degree in design. She took her skills to New York City and started designing soft sculpture animals. There she met her husband Robert L. Ferraro. They settled in Rockville Centre, NY. This is where Nancy created a world of whimsy and innovation in which she raised her 2 children, excelled in tennis and continued with her art. As "empty nesters", she and Robert returned to the tranquil world of her youth and settled in the Bennington area in 1981. There she became known for her warm and caring personality as she continued to create her hand sculptured stuffed animals, giving each one a name and a story. There ,she shared many conversations with tourists and locals in her corner of Camelot Village known as Nancy's Ark. After Camelot's closing, she shined as a sales associate in the Bennington Pottery. In her retirement, she enjoyed her neighbors and friends in the bucolic Pine Knoll in Arlington. Nancy was known by locals as a very kind, embracing person. She was loved by all people and had a soft spot for all animals. Her husband Robert predeceased her in 2010. She is survived by her son Mark, her daughter Elizabeth and partner Jeff Paquet, 2 granddaughters Jamie and Kelly, her sister Elizabeth (Bunny) Templeton, and nephew Stewart Lane and his family. Her family will be gathering for a small ceremony and she will be laid to rest in a family cemetery overlooking Lake Champlain, not far from the family orchard. Donations can be made in her name to Second Chance Animal Shelter or Manchester Health Services in care of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250.
