Norma (Jewell) Shiatte, 82, of Glenmont, NY, passed away June 14, 2015 at Equinox Terrace in Manchester Center, VT after a short illness. Norma was born in Webster, MA and was the daughter of Leon and Hazel (Luft) Jewell. She graduated from Bartlett High School in Webster, MA and from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she received her BS degree in biology. Norma was the biology lab coordinator at Russell Sage College for 20 years. She was a master gardener at Ten Broeck Mansion in Albany, and an active member of the Tawasentha Chapter of the DAR and the First United Methodist Church in Delmar. Throughout her life, she studied a wide range of subjects at the University of Albany. She was a dedicated naturalist and pursued many artistic endeavors.Norma is predeceased by husband Kenneth W. Shiatte and son Wayne K. Shiatte. She is survived by her daughter Jane S. Fisher and Jane's husband Randy Fisher of Manchester Center, VT, brother Warren Jewell and his wife Jean Anne of Yarmouth Port, MA, grandchildren Jordan Fisher of Philadelphia and Will and Ann Fisher of Manchester Center, and nieces Sally Boston, Marianne Gewandter and Kathleen Fogle, all of Cape Cod. Norma is also survived by her dear friend Kathy Skinner of Wynantskill.A private funeral service will be held in Webster, MA, where Norma will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Those who wish may send a remembrance to the Wayne K. and Kenneth W. Shiatte Memorial Scholarship Fund care of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 100 Institute Road, Worcester, MA 01609. A private funeral service will be held in Webster, MA, where Norma will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
