Otto Egger, 83, a resident of Bondville, passed away in the early morning of May 23, 2016 at his home with his wife, Antonia, at his side.Otto was born in Zell am See, Austria on February 27, 1933, and first came to America in 1960 to introduce us all to the new, standardized Austrian method of ski instruction. After instructing at Mad River Glen for four years, he then became both an instructor with the Ski School at Stratton, as well as the emcee and accordion player for the Stratton Mountain Boys! He made Stratton his home mountain for over 50 years.During his wonderful and long career at Stratton Mountain, Otto encouraged leagues of students of all ages to love to ski, inspired professionalism in his colleagues and embraced everyone with a genuine smile and a sincere greeting. His regular proclamation "Stratton Mountain is Wunderbar!" during an evening of lively, family centered entertainment by the Stratton Mountain Boys immersed everyone in what is known as "Oesterreichische Gemuetlichkeit" or Austrian conviviality. Whether two or 92, if you skied with Otto, or heard the music he made, you had a lifelong memory to enjoy.Funeral services for Otto will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Snows at Stratton Mountain, VT.
