Quietly in his sleep and under the tender care of hospice, Owen Fredrick Burke passed away on the evening of November 23, 2015 in Cary, NC at 84 years of age. He was born on November 5, 1931 in Dorset, VT to Owen Burke and Iona (Reed) Burke. Owen loved the outdoors and was fortunate to be able to enjoy playing baseball, fishing, hunting and golf when his health permitted. He operated his own landscaping business, and then later in life, he was the caretaker of Windgap Farm on Rupert Mountain. Owen was predeceased by his wife Josephine May Baker in 1990 and his wife Nellie Willis Pike in 2007. He was also predeceased by his brother Claude Burke and his sister Hazel Tarbell. He is survived by his remaining sisters Gladys Prouty, Emily Slade and Beverly Bush. Owen leaves behind three children, Shawn P. Burke, Joanna R. LeClair and Heather M. Needes as well as four step-children Claudia Sendra, Carol O'Dell, Gerald Pike, and Thomas Pike. Owen's love will be missed by his grandchildren Sabrina McDonough, Sara Deering, Jason LeClair, Nicole Jira, Danielle Burke and Claire Needes as well as his great-grandchildren Paul, Beatrice and Hugo. Cremation has taken place in North Carolina with interment and memorial service to follow in the spring in Vermont.
