Peter Hand

Peter Francis Hand of Manchester Center, VT passed away on July 10, 2018, his 74th birthday. He was born in Yonkers, New York in 1944 to Barbara and Frank Hand. He attended Mount St. Michael's and Malvern Prepatory School and was a graduate of Georgetown University in 1968. Peter served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. In 1970 Peter married the love of his life, Mary Beth McBride of Riverdale, NY. They moved to Manchester Center, VT in 1971 where they settled and raised their family. Peter was a devoted and loving father to four children. Sean Michael Hand, Kevin Peter Hand, Meaghan Maureen (Hand) Caron and Peter Francis Hand, Jr. He has 5 beautiful grand-daughters who love him deeply with all of their strong little hearts. Peter worked at Stratton Ski Resort from 1971 to 1982 as manager of food services. He was President of Haystack Mountain from 1986-1991. He then worked for Boston Culinary Group as Director of Food and Beverage at Bromley Mountain for 20 years before he retired in 2012. In his retirement he was able to enjoy working on his model trains, restoring his antique clocks, golfing and spending time with immediate and extended family and friends. Peter was loved and adored by his community. Many people from all over the region worked with him throughout the years and he cared for and took care of his employees as if they were his family. Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Mary Beth; and his four children Sean Hand, Kevin Hand, Peter Francis Hand, Jr. (PJ) and his wife Rebecca Waxman and Meaghan Caron and her husband Scott Caron; 5 granddaughters Addy, Tess, Grace, Sarah and Lillian; his brother Edward Hand and sister Susan McBride. Peter was pre-deceased by his eldest brother Thomas Hand and his eldest sister Barbara Hand. Family, friends and those whose lives were touched by Peter are invited to gather to pay respects on Friday July 13th from 5pm-7pm at Brewster Funeral Home, 34 Park Place in Manchester Center, VT. A funeral service will be held Saturday July 14th at 1pm at Saint Paul's Catholic Church, 398 Bonnet Street, Manchester Center, VT. To celebrate Peter, family and friends are then asked to join together at Bromley Mountain to tell stories and share a toast in the Wild Boar Restaurant. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Manchester Rescue Squad and the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, c/o Brewster-Shea Funeral Services P.O. Box 885 Manchester Center, VT 05255.
