Peter Passaro

Peter Francis Passaro passed away peacefully on May 26 at his home in Dorset, Vermont, surrounded by his family. Born May 6, 1946 in Stamford, CT to the late Peter A. Passaro and Clementina Moroni Passaro, Peter is pre-deceased by his sister Marilyn Passaro. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Taimi Herman Passaro, from whom he was rarely apart; his daughter Tinabeth Passaro Burton and son-in-law Andrew F. Burton, and their children Bryn and Shea of Marblehead, MA; son Peter U. Passaro and daughter-in-law Michelle Sissener Passaro, and their children Nina and Peter of Stamford, CT; and son Christopher W. Passaro and daughter-in-law Clare Pinchin Passaro, and their children Madeline, Sophie and William of Darien, CT. Growing up in Stamford, Peter attended Belltown School and Rippowam High School where he was a three sport Varsity athlete and still holds a school record in javelin throw. His high school yearbook described him as "seeing the world through rose-colored glasses," and that attitude remained a hallmark of his personality throughout his life. Peter saw the good in people, and brought a positive perspective to most any situation. After attending University of Connecticut, Peter joined his father in the foundry business. He later applied his knowledge of metals to the mining industry, where he served as CFO, Chairman, and a longtime Director of Bullion Monarch Mining, Corporation. He and Taimi settled in New Canaan, CT, where he taught Sunday School at the Congregational Church, spent many seasons coaching Pop Warner football, and was an avid supporter of New Canaan High School Athletics. He had an unbridled love of the outdoors and athletics, and was a proponent of the life lessons one learned on the field. When he wasn't spending time with his family on the ski slopes at Stratton Mountain, or his friends on the golf course at the Country Club of Darien, he and Taimi could be spotted on the sidelines of their children's sporting events where he offered quiet and steadfast support. Upon retirement Peter moved to Dorset Vermont, pursued his love of golf and skiing, and honed his skills as a fly fisherman and bird hunter, which he enjoyed with Taimi, many friends new and old, and the companionship of his three Brittany Spaniels. As New England winters grew less tolerable, Peter and Taimi took up residence in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his family for his strong sense of right and wrong, his belief in the value of hard work, his loyalty to family and friends above all else, and for the simple joys he found in an amusing story, a good laugh, or a meaningful conversation. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, May 31 at the Dorset Field Club at 4pm.
