Philip K. Ostrander, 78, a resident of West Main Street, passed away Saturday April 18, 2015 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation. Phil was born in Bennington on August 29, 1936 the son of John and Frances (Rich) Ostrander. He was educated in North Bennington schools, graduating from North Bennington High School in 1954. Phil served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1954-1962. He worked at Mack Molding as a bookkeeper in the Finance Department for thirty years, retiring in 1998. Phil was a life member of American Legion Post 13, life member of Elks Lodge #567 and a life member of the Moose Lodge. He was a former member of the North Bennington Fire Department where he served as secretary. Phil enjoyed playing computer games, was a huge NASCAR fan and in his earlier years enjoyed going to stock car races at Lebanon Valley Speedway and following the circuit to other tracks. Phil cherished times with his family especially after the passing of his wife. Phil is survived by his step-children James and Vickie Mattison of Pompano Beach, FL, Beverly Mattison and Diane and Robert Vince of Bennington, and Gerry and Bridget Mattison of Watervliet, NY, daughter-in-lawMary Mattison of Bennington, cousin Rev. Penny Rich Smith of North Bennington, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Elizabeth Ann Flanders whom her married July 1, 1966. Betty passed away April 14, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his step-son Billy Mattison. At the request of the family funeral services will be private. There are no visiting hours. Interment will be held in the family lot in Parklawn Cemetery. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Phil's memory may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad, c/o Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home P.O. Box 957 Bennington, Vermont 05251. At the request of the family funeral services will be private. There are no visiting hours. Interment will be held in the family lot in Parklawn Cemetery.
