Preston R. Sprague, 86, a resident of Tunnel Street passed away January 4, 2015 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, with peace and dignity, his family at his side. Preston was born at his grandparents house in Whitingham, Vermont on March 5, 1928 the son of Vernon and Blanche (Reynolds) Sprague. He was raised on their farm on North Hill in Readsboro and attended the local school. Preston served his country as a member of the United States Navy during WWII and Upon his discharge worked as a truck driver for many years. Preston enjoyed gardening, cooking, brewing his own beer and making wine. He was a big history buff, enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to sing and play guitar and cards. Preston enjoyed being with his friends and spending time with his family. He was very proud to call his daughter Nicki his best friend and was proud and happy to see his granddaughter Taylor begin her college career. He was loved by many and we will celebrate his life and love always. Preston is survived by his wife the former Frances Tower of Readsboro, children Stephen Sprague of Brunswick, Maine, Michael Comai of Bennington, Marsha Morgan of Vancouver, Canada, Geraldine Smith of Englewood, Florida, Patricia Edwards of Englewood, Florida, Marcia Bisson of Florida, Jody Parsons and Diedra Moore both of Wilmington, Dean Sprague of Bowdoin, Maine and Nicki Sprague of Readsboro, brothers Marshall Sprague of Readsboro and Phillip Sprague of Bennington, sister Thelma Hoover of Stockbridge, Massachusetts and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Velma Hughes who died in 1965 and his brother Gilbert Sprague. Funeral services for Preston will be held Friday January 9, 2015 at 4pm at Covey-Allen & Shea Funeral Home 44 East Main Street Wilmington, Vermont. Interment will be held in the spring in Village Cemetery in Readsboro. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Friday January 9, 2015 from 3-4pm, one hour prior to the service.
