Rachel Doris Geannelis

Rachel Doris Geannelis, 92, a resident of Bennington, passed away October 14, 2021, at Crescent Manor Rehabilitation in Bennington. As she was commonly known, Doris was born in Bennington on January 27, 1929, the daughter of the late Peter A. and Veronica (Baker) Geannelis. She graduated from Bennington High School and Green Mountain Junior College. Doris worked as a Lab Technician at Putnam Hospital and also had a private practice, in town, for many years. Doris loved anything to do with the outdoors: skiing, golfing, swimming, and walking. Doris enjoyed all the area lakes, especially Woodford Lake at her family camp, where she hosted family and friends and created many memories. She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews, teaching the kids sports, knitting, dancing, playing Pokeno, and volunteering at the Wilson House in Dorset. Doris is survived by her nieces and nephews, Carol West (William) of Albany, NY, Pamela Geannelis-White (Bradley) of Peterborough, NH, Peter R. Geannelis (Monique) of Bennington, and Nikki Geannelis (Peter, deceased) of Chester, VT. She was preceded in death by her twin brother Richard D. Geannelis, her brother John Geannelis, sisters Barbara Matuszek, Helen Gibney, and Sister Joan Geannelis, and nephew Peter J. Geannelis. Graveside funeral services for Doris will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 11am at Park Lawn Cemetery, in Bennington. There are no visiting hours.
