Raymond P. Ostrander

Raymond Paul Ostrander, 85 of Arlington Vt. passed away suddenly on Thursday April 10th. He was born January 25, 1940 in Torrington, CT to Lena and Bill Ostrander. He grew up in Torrington where he was a competitive swimmer for the New Haven Swim Club for many years holding and breaking national titles. He attended and swam for the University of Maryland where he met his wife of 57 years, Jaqueline June Peterson. He and Jackie moved to Washington, CT in 1966 to teach at Rumsey Hall School where he was a beloved teacher, coach, dorm parent and advisor for 20 years. They moved to Stowe, VT in 1982 to pursue a property management career and enjoy the lifestyle of a mountain ski town. An avid skier and traveler, he and his wife Jackie enjoyed many years taking groups of kids to Austria, France and Italy on ski trips and spent the summers teaching summer school to his students on the Costa del Sol in Spain. Ray was also a devoted NY Giants fan and was fortunate to witness 4 Super bowls in his lifetime. He stuck by his beloved Giants his entire life through their many ups and downs. Ray is survived by his sister Betsy Ostrander Quartiero in Torrington, his daughters Tara Sabol of Londonderry, VT, Heidi West of Bend, OR and his six grandchildren; Christoper Sabol, Brooke Sabol, Hayley Sabol, Mathew Sabol, Hannah West and Jackson West. Ray was a scholar, athlete, adventurer and a proud husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by many friends and former students as well as fellow Giants fans. A memorial service will be held by his family in June to remember a life well lived by a man who impacted so many lives and a legacy of love and respect.
