Raymond B. Prouty Jr., 77 a resident of Bennington passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 31. 2022. He was born in Fort Bragg, NC on July 15, 1944. Raymond graduated from Bennington High School in 1963. He was married to Nancy D. Barber on May 25, 1971, at the First Baptist Church in Bennington. Throughout the years Raymond worked for many manufacturing companies as a machinist; Parker Machines, Sibley’s, Globe Union and he became Vice-President of U.S.Tsubaki. Later he and his son Jon owned and operated Prouty’s Service Station. After retirement, he continued to work at The Pharmacy as a delivery driver. He enjoyed fishing and camping on Lake Champlain. Over the years he was devoted to many committees and community activities, including the school board and CDC, but his biggest devotion and greatest accomplishment was his family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy (Barber) Prouty, his children Michael Prouty and Danean of Springhill, FL., Jason Prouty Sr., Jonathan and Robyn Prouty of Bennington, Jason Prouty Jr. and Tabatha of Interlaken, NY, Kris and Joe Bartha Sr. of Florida, Lori and Rick Mahaffey of Springfield, MA, Misty and Greg Lambert of Poultney, Abby Barber of Bennington and Helen Prouty of South Carolina, grandchildren Christie Richards, Tiffany Richards, Raymond and Ashley Prouty, Danny Lehto, Dakota Prouty , Cheyenne Hawley, Jaylyn Prouty, Zachary and Santana Howard, Ethan Howard, “Stormy” Samantha Howard, Gage Prouty, Piper Prouty, Jacob and Alyssa Webster, Jeremiah and Michaela Webster, “Banana” Hannah Webster and Jared Lambert. A brother Thomas and wife Rita Prouty, sister in law Pamela Prouty all of Bennington, His two amigos Thomas Oldham and Richard Barber, 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Raymond was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Lura (Oldham) Prouty Sr., siblings Larry, Lura and Matthew Scott Prouty who died January 22, 2015, two grandchildren Dustin Richards and Mary Elizabeth Prouty.
